Chipotle, also called chilpoctle or chilpotle, is a dried and smoked preparation of jalapeño pepper, slightly stronger than the latter (5000 to 10000 on the Scoville scale compared to 2500 to 8000).

It is found in many varieties of sauces and in dishes of Mexican cuisine.
